For the 2022-2023 School Year, the PRC is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays (7:15am- 2:45pm), following the school calendar. My name is Diane Pearson and I am a retired Speech/Language Pathologist with IWCS.    I am available at other days/times, by appointment,  just email me and we can work something out.  The PRC is closed at times due to unforeseen circumstances (illness, conferences, etc.).   Please email me before coming,  I do not want to miss anyone.   My e-mail is: dpearson@iwcs.k12.va.us

The Special Education PRC helps families:

-Become familiar with the special education process in Isle of Wight County Schools

-Learn about their rights and responsibilities according to the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

-Develop skills to become an effective member of their child's educational team

-Understand how to begin planning for their child's future (Transition)

-Borrow materials for home use (We have a lending library of games/materials for PK through 5th/6th grade, in Reading and Math primarily, as well as games/activities for Social-Emotional development.)

-Become informed about community resources and parent events

-Learn about information on workshops and training sessions provided for parents by the PRC or other community agencies.

I am here for parents to come in for additional information; to check-out /return materials; or to talk about concerns/questions regarding the special education process.  I will listen and help as much as I can.  The Parent Workshops will hopefully return next school year.

Wondering how you can check-out materials to use at home?   It is easy!  Parents can come in and see what we have. Materials are usually checked-out for up to 4 weeks and are then returned to the PRC.

To make it easier for parents that have a difficult time getting to GTMS, materials can be arranged to be delivered to the student’s school for the parent to meet me, sign check out form and take the materials home.  They can then be returned easily as well.  Parents can drop them off at the student’s school main office and the I can pick them up.

 *Online Resources to explore*

I added a page of online-resources which are excellent options for Parents (and Teachers) for information related to current educational, social-emotional, sensory, attention and behavioral concerns.   Registration is EASY and all resources are FREE!  Webinars are conducted through ZOOM.  Online Workshops are also archived and available for you to watch if you miss the presentation date.  Most provide PRACTICAL and FUNCTIONAL information that you can download and use -- please, check them out!
